James Oliver Bridges - February 11, 1926 - June 2, 2004

OBITUARY FOR JAMES O. BRIDGES
Georges Mills, NH – James O. Bridges, 78 of Sunapee Cove, beloved husband of Joan D. Bridges, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004.
He was born in Lindale, GA on February 11, 1926, the son of Oliver P. and Eudora M. (Smith) Bridges. From 1948 – 1963, he was an advertising executive with Batten, Barton, Durston & Osborne, Inc., New York. He handled accounts with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Lucky Strike Cigarettes. From 1963-1967, he worked for Ketchum, McCleod, & Grove, New York, handling the US Army Recruitment Account. Mr. Bridges worked for Darcy, McManus, & Maisius, New York with the US Air Force Recruitment Account and the US Treasury Dept. from 1967-1986. He sold the first-ever Olympic Gold Coins which supported the US Olympics in 1984. He resided in Yonkers, NY until moving to New London, NH in 1986. After moving to New London, Mr. Bridges worked for Cricenti’s Market, Inc. from 1992-1996, and in 1996 became part-time. He served the US Army during WWII. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of New London, NH and a former member of the Country Squires.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bridges’ surviving family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Heather J. Bridges of Manchester and a daughter, Cheryl Ann Bridges of Omaha, NE; a sister LaBelle B. Hand of Washington, DC and a nephew, John O. Hand of Washington, DC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of New London, NH with the Rev. Dr. Jeffry R. Zurheide presiding. A reception will be held in Cleveland Hall at the Church immediately following the memorial service.
